This
week's tip is a low-cost source for professional looking shirts for your
lawn care business.
Low-priced, professional looking shirts for your Lawn Care
Business.
As a Lawn Care Business
owner, what would you say to Cheap Advertising, a Professional
Appearance for you and your employees, and a fun side project
for your spare time?
I have recently come across a
method of making all three of these ideas happen at the same
time.
In the
Lawn
Care business program, we suggest that you give a professional
appearance both when you are giving estimates as well as when
you are actually doing lawncare or landscaping work for your
customers. One way to present a professional appearance is by
having nice looking shirts with your company name and logo.
Until recently, the only way
to have shirts made up was to have them professionally
silk-screened. To make it cost effective, you would
normally need to have at lease a dozen made of the same design.
Unfortunately, the cost is still over $10 when having them made
this way.
Recently, I was in our local
Staples' office supply store and I came across a package of
T-shirt heat transfers. The package was $12 for 6 full
sheet transfers. Across the street from Staples' is our local
Hobby Lobby. I found thick material T-shirts for $3.00 each.
So I purchased a couple.
You guessed it. These shirts
are excellent for your lawn care / landscaping business. It is
easy to scan your logo into your computer and then print it out
on one of the transfers using your ink jet printer. If the shirt is white,
reverse the image before printing it. If the shirt is
dark, do not reverse the image.
Follow the directions on the
instruction sheet what will come with the transfers. I
found that I can do the main logo on the majority of the transfer for the back
of the shirt and then use a small section on the same transfer
to print the Lawn Care Business name along with the phone number
to put on the front of the shirt where a shirt pocket would go.
To transfer the image to your
shirt, simply run an iron over the back of the transfer. Follow
the instruction sheet that comes with your package of
transfers. I messed up the first shirt I did by forgetting to
reverse the image before I printed it out. So, it is a good
idea for you to practice on an old shirt the first time you
try. Also, I have noticed that it works better to cut around
your image and to cut away any blank areas from the transfer
sheet before you iron it onto the shirt. If you are using
a dark colored shirt, you will have to follow different
instructions. Be sure to follow the directions that come
with your transfers.
If you are only making a few
shirts for you and your lawn care crew, doing shirts this way
will cost about $5.00 each. For a larger number of shirts, buy
transfers and shirts in larger quantities and you can get your
price to around $3.00 each or less.
